Ralf Schumacher finished his Force India testing Thursday with with a realization that his career in F1 may well be over and that there is no plans for him to drive for Force India.
It was a very difficult day for Ralf at Jerez on Thursday which included 2 spins and mechanical problems, ending up with Schumacher finishing the day 6/10ths slower than other Force India tester Antonio Liuzzi and slowest of all 20 on track. It must be a bitter pill for the seasoned veteran to swallow, but he says it isn’t something that just came out of the blue. He has admitted to thinking about the possible end of his career since the middle of the 2007 season
“I do not believe that next year I will be here (at Force India
“It looks as though that was my last ride in a F1 car.”
“I now have to consider what is best for me. Maybe it means I will stay at home.”
“Of course I am not blindly slamming the door, but it (any offer) would really have to make sense.”
I have written some negative things about Ralf Schumacher in the past, focusing mainly on his apparent loss of passion for the sport. His hunger seemed to disappear with Toyota and now it seems nothing can bring that back.

1Ralf’s career can be called a waste of a talent. He may not have as much talent as his elder brother but he is still a pretty good driver. Unfortunatelly he does not seem to enjoy racing, the passion is not there. The move to Toyota was a mistake (of course well paid for
)
Funny thing is how differently his “bye” words were put on different F1 news sites.
Ralf on Autosport: “I don’t think I will be driving for Force India. I want to achieve something and I don’t think I can do that with Force India.”
That sounds like it was Ralf not wanting Force India, but I think the sad truth for him is - nobody wants him … Not very dignified end, but his fault anyway. It should have been clear to him that finding new seat is next to impossible for him, he should have announced his retirement the moment he said he is leaving Toyota …

2Now, I speak from a very limited perspective as my POV lacks an informative insight and analysis derived from
a long enough historical context of Ralf as a driver
over the years of his career; but, my hope, after
watching his uninspired and sloppy performance this year, was that he would not return in 2008!

3Paris’ observation is ’spot on’. I cannot recall the unfortunate Ralph driving as badly as he had done the past season. Certainly I must not be the only fan of the sport who had expected brilliance equal to, or surpassing even, that of brother Michael.
Ralph, Ralph…listen closely. Can you hear the voices calling? N.A.S.C.A.R., I.R.L.
