David Coulthard is at it again and this time his ill timed and ’stupid’ remarks pushed a very stressed and frustrated Anthony Davidson over the line. Coulthard (another frustrated driver) whose mouth seems to have a life of it’s own these days referred to the 2 Super Aguris as the “stupid Aguris” for being in the way when getting lapped.
In response to this, Davidson had this to say:
“They can shut right up.”
“When you can hardly see what the hell is going on because the car is shaking around so much, and you’re just fully focused on keeping the damn thing on the track, the last thing you can do is be bothered about others trying to lap you.”
“I’d love to swap cars with these drivers. I really believe some of them would struggle, or even crack, if they were in our position.”
Davidson also referred to his car as a “botched job.” Ouch!
Given Anthony Davidson’s position driving a tough car, I have to agree with what he said and probably would have blown up just as he did. I can’t imagine the stress and frustration Sato and Davidson (especially Davidson) go through every day wondering if they will have a job when they get up in the morning.
I have been pulling for Super Aguri all along in their battle to stay alive and still do even though they are almost past the 12th hour now, but in reality should they be out on the track with these unprepared cars? I’ve struggled with this for a while, but in the end, my answer has to be ‘no’ they shouldn’t and should never have been aloud to. An F1 race is only a place for the best prepared and maintained cars otherwise safety on the track is voluntarily compromised.
It is unfortunate Super Aguri’s situation is what it is, but with virtually no testing, drivers with no miles under them, and a whole list of issues with their cars they have no business being on the track.
David Coulthard however, is out of line with his comments. Given that Davidson and Sato are racing for a team desperate to be on the track, comments like these are very unprofessional. I’m not sure what is going on with Coulthard this year, but he has taken it on himself to run his mouth off at any given moment without first thinking. He’s acting like an a*s in my book.

1While I would agree with you and join you as someone who would rather see Aguri be rescued from themselves, Davidson went a it too far in his comments.
If the car was in such poor shape it shouldn’t have been on the track and become a hazard for others.
The team could have “pulled a “Minardi” (I think it was Minardi) qualed the car and then parked it. They still would have been listed as a participant in Barcelona and also meet all the FIA requirements.

2I agree with you Marc. Given that Super Aguri has chosen to compete and Davidson and Sato are contracted to drive, they are obligated to be in the car.
I don’t think Super Aguri should be there in the condition they are and Davidson did heavily criticize his car in public as a botched job. I believe the 2 drivers are doing their absolute best to drive the beasts around the track so any comments should be directed toward Super Aguri team management through proper channels.
Coulthard is bad mouthing everyone this year and he is a representative of Red Bull.

3I like Aguri, but based on their performance, I really do not think it makes any sense for them to compete in Formula 1. they are usually 5 seconds slower than the leading teams per lap. This level of performance just defeats the purpose of Formula 1.
I am not an expert, but they seem to belong to a minor league
