Things are taking shape now in the 2008 F1 drivers lineup. In the past couple of weeks, we have had confirmations from most teams, but I think this list is still changeable. As far as big signings, we are still waiting on Fernando Alonso leaving much still undecided.
This list has an opening beside Lewis Hamilton at McLaren, 2 spots still not confirmed at Renault, and an announcement to be made the first week in December from Force India on their lineup.
Ferrari: Kimi Raikkonnen & Felipe Massa
McLaren: Lewis Hamilton
BMW: Nick Heidfield & Robert Kubica
Renault: Not Yet
Williams: Nico Rosberg & Kazuki Nakajima
Red Bull: David Coulthard & Mark Webber
Toro Rosso: Sebastian Vettel & Sebastien Bourdais
Toyota: Jarno Trulli & Timo Glock
Honda: Jenson Button & Rubens Barrichello
Super Aguri: Takuma Sato & Anthony Davidson
Force India: Adrian Sutil (still a ?)

1Alonso to Renault. Let’s be honest. Who else would have him ?.
They deserve each other.

5Let me put it this way, Hamilton is a very good driver certainly.
He is a very good driver when things are going smoothly, when he has the car he had last season at Maclaren, the full back up of the team and the team boss and with feed back about set up coming from Fernando. By far Alonso is the better driver and deleting the couple of races that he did not finish last season he would have been World Champion again.
He has outstripped the seven times World Champion Michael Schumaker of his title during the 2005 and 2006 seasons, so what more can this chap do to prove himself. As for Maclaren I think that they have let themselves drastically down first with the controversy about the spying scandal and second because they did not back up Fernando to the hilt. I’m sure that they would have won both the constructors’ as well as the drivers’ championships by a wide marging over Ferrari.
Last world about Ferrari. Why is it that when they are on the losing side they always come up with some sort of controversey. Everynone remembers their complaints about the Maclaren/Mercedes berilium engines during Mika Hakenen’s time, and Renault’s side pods during 2005. Come on Ferrari grow up, these things do not suit you.

6I’m not sure I agree with you fully. Lewis did prove a lot this year and drove extremely well. Head to head he beat Fernando and during testing last week at Jerez, Lewis posted some of the fastest times. There are prodigies in every sport and Lewis may end up being one (we will have to wait for that), but until then what does one person have to do to prove himself?
I am not suggesting and never have that Lewis is better than Fernando, but the bottom line is, put politics and attitudes away and fight it out on the track:)

7I think it is tough to say who is better of Hamilton and Alonso considering all of the controversy and problems with McLaren in 2007. Hamilton is very talented for sure, but I think he will have a very tough time competing for the championship in 2008 as McLaren will be at a disadvantage having to change much of their previous car due to the espionage charge. Renault I think will beat them with Alonso, but it is tough to bet against Ferrari and Kimi Raikkonen to repeat, and I think the combo would deserve to as I think Kimi is the over-all best driver if you consider both speed, consistancy and having a cool head on his shoulders. I think Alonso and Massa should take lessons from him in how to control your emotions.

9The hamilton will prove to be yet another Jacques or Damon [without the personality of either]..nothing more than a meidocre driver falling into the very best chassis/motor combination of the time. He too will work his way down to Toyota or the like..eventually ending a short lived ‘carrer’ in an IRL car.
Fernando has proven time and again that he is far above the rest..especially someone like the hamilton.
Renault-Fernando vs. Ferrari-Kimi/Phillipe will once again provide the real competition in 2008.

10Hamilton has the raw talent, skills still to be seasoned, and is a bit of a paradoxical dark horse. Wait and see?
Now, Alonso, at times, drove on the track like a distracted champion. Was Alonso able to go out and drive with a clear, settled mindset?
Raikkonnen drove in Brazil like a man who went out on the track and just got the job done, stripping away the extraneous, leaving us with a remainder of the sheer trill of watching a talented driver drive a F1 car. Where the rubber meets the road, is where it begins and ends…..

11In Brazil Fernando was racing with an older engine which he was nursing along all the way to finish the race. 20 laps from the end he was still in contention to win the championship, that’s before the faithful pit stop where Massa had to let Kimi Raikonen through as part of the Ferrari strategy to win the championship.
According to interviews on the BBC, Kovalainen said that before signing on with McLaren he was promised equal status and treatment to that of Lewis Hamilton.
On the other hand Lewis told the BBC: Quote “For me it’s great, I’m almost seen as the leader of the team and hopefully I can do the job”.
I’m sure that we still have to see some more sparks flying at Mclaren during 2008.

12I quite agree with you Reno in that we shall certainly see much more sparks flying at McLaren in the coming season.
What happened also at Mclaren was the fact that Ron Dennis wanted to crown Lewis Hamilton as Boy King when the Reigning Monarch (Alonso) was still sitting on the throne and living in the same palace (McLaren’s). A sure case of utter lack of strategic forsight not expected either of Dennis or Norman Haug.
If Kovalainen is expecting equal treatment to Hamilton he has to prove his worth in the first race otherwise he’s down and out from the first round. He’s only a driver, Alonso was the World Champion.

13I too would put money on sparks flying at McLaren in the coming season, and I would put money on both Renault and Ferrari beating them. Hamilton is talented, but I think he is in for a tough season, I dont think he has the maturity to lead yet and McLaren has a lot of problems to fix.
I think Kimi will take it over Alonso, then Massa. I have my doubts on Hamilton finishing in the top 5 in the coming season. He will likely improve with time and perhaps another team but he is not there yet. With regard to the problems described with Alonso and Kimi, it is true that they both have weaknesses. Driving such a long race under such extreme circumstances is tough and every driver has their flaws. But I do not think any driver would beat Alonso and Raikkonen in the coming season unless Michael Schumacher would decide to return, and I think even he would get a good run for the money from both of them.
